All 7 Schools of Warring States Card Battles Explained

Warring States Card Battles key art

In Warring States: Card Battles, your school of thought is your entire identity. Each of the seven schools plays like a completely different deck — and choosing well matters more than any single card. Here is everything a beginner needs to pick their philosophy.

01How a school shapes your game

There are seven exclusive schools plus one Neutral pool shared by everyone. Every deck is built around one hero from a school, and that hero's power sets the tempo of the match. Your school decides whether you rush the opponent down, grind them out, or dismantle their board card by card.

Below, each school comes with its best beginner heroes, the playstyle it rewards, and the matchups to watch out for.

Military (兵家)

Aggro · Face · Tempo

The Military school is pure aggression. Strike fast, strike hard, and end the game before your opponent's slower plan comes together. In Warring States terms, this is the rush / aggro philosophy.

Wu Qi+1/+1 to a friendly
Lian Po+5 Armor
Pros
  • Fast matches
  • Punishes slow decks
  • Simple, decisive plays
Cons
  • Runs out of steam
  • Weak to heavy armor

Great for: players who want quick, aggressive games.

Legalist (法家)

Control · Disruption · Silence

The Legalist school enforces order. It silences, bounces, and manages the board with precision — punishing anyone who builds a fancy combo by stripping it away.

  • Shuts down combos
  • Strong mid-game

  • Slower start

Confucian (儒家)

The Confucian school grows steadily. Draw, heal, and buff to out-value the opponent over time. It rewards patience and a strong late game.

  • Powerful weapons
Cons
